The Cove Ledger

Field notes from Halibut Cove, the bay it sits in and the boats that reach it

How to reach The Cove Ledger, what to send with a correction, and what this desk cannot answer.

The desk reads its mail at contact@halibutcovealaska.com. Write in English and put the name of the entry in the subject line if your message is about an existing one.

A correction

Send the address of the entry, the sentence you believe is wrong, and the source that settles it. A published tide table, a marine forecast, a state park page, a chart or a public record is enough. A comment thread, a booking page or a promotional video is not, because none of them can be checked against a fixed text.

An entry that is corrected is republished with a new checked-on date. The correction is not hidden: the sentence is rewritten and the date moves.

What this desk will not do

The desk does not take reservations, does not hold a room or a seat on any boat, does not quote a price as an offer and does not forward a message to a lodge, an operator or a guide. It also does not answer questions about a specific booking, a specific vessel or a specific date, because it is not a party to any of them.

What is welcome

Corrections, sources the desk has not read, and questions about the cove itself: how the tide works on a given shoreline, what a season looks like, which published table covers a stretch of water. Those messages are the raw material of the next revision.
